Weaving Tools

These are some of the tools I use at various times.

  1. Tape measure (extra long to measure cane)
  2. Clothes pins (for holding the basket rim after you turn it)
  3. 2 1/2" clamps (red tips and handles - use the same as the clothes pins)
  4. metal awl (clear handle - used for making the rim on some baskets)
  5. reed cutters (sissors will work as well)
  6. a 1/4" packer (blue - used to make a tight weave)
  7. a 1/8" packer (yellow)
  8. spray bottle (not shown - used to keep the cane wet and pliable)
  9. spoke weight (not shown - used to hold the spokes in place for the first few rows of weaving)

I keep these in a reed double woven lidded basket which I made to test the pattern for the lid. I also tie it with a ribbon, to make the lid secure since some of the objects are heavy. All of these supplies can be purchased at most basket supply shops.
